Airbnb in Nashville

After leaving Dallas we headed across Arkansas and spent the night in Memphis, Tenn. We didn/t explore the city just saw it from the bridge crossing the Mississippi River. We then headed on to Nashville where we spent two nights at an Airbnb. Our hosts were a young couple named Brian and Jordan Fuente. They are both musicians, singers/songwriters and entrepreneurs. We spent many hours chatting and getting to know each other. They are a delightful couple who will go far. They met on the Voice and you can check them out on YouTube. Her name is Jordan Pruitt. His name is Brian Fuente. They have a music studio in their basement. Also they are involved with several business ventures. So much talent and energy! They invited us to stay another day for free because we hit it off so well. But we couldn't take them up on their kind offer. We hope they visit us in Canada. We did enjoy our time in Nashville but it's not my favorite music. Glad we spent time there and the weather was great!
We then went on to Columbus, Ohio for the next night and woke up to rain! That's the first rain we have seen since Jan. 1! We didn't do any exploring, had dinner at Red Lobster and just headed out the next day for State College, Pennsylvania to see Maggie and family. It's Micah's 10th birthday on the 13th! The weather is good here- Spring has sprung! We, of course, think it's very cold.
Tomorrow we leave for Canada and Kitchener. We will stay with Jason and family and also see Liz and Dave Gerth who we met in Mexico. Very small world, indeed. Then on home on the 15th!

Our Stops in Texas

We have been enjoying our trip back to Canada but it is tiring to be driving most days. Of course the roads are good and the GPS is a godsend but it is still stressful.
Our drive from Monterrey was smooth and crossing the border went very well. We didn't run into any traffic or glitches along the way.
We arrived in San Antonio nice and early and checked in to our hotel near the Riverwalk. We went back along the Villeta area hoping to go back to Rio Gelato for pizza only to find that it was closed. A sign out front said they had an offsite catering job and would be back but they weren't. On our way back we stopped in at the Briscoe Museum of Western Art. It turned out to be excellent. We both really enjoyed this museum as it gave us a sense of the Western Settlement through painting and artifacts.
We found a very nice restaurant along the Riverwalk and enjoyed the beautiful evening before heading back to our hotel.
We had a short drive the next day to Austin. Such a nice city to get around with lots of bikes and public transit. It is ahead of many cities it seems. We had a great lunch at the Easy Tiger and explored a bit before going to our hotel. At about 7 pm we headed to the Congress Street Bridge to wait for the bats to come out at dusk. It's an amazing sight. Check out the details here. It was one of the highlights of my trip so far. I love bats and have wanted to see this for years.
We drove along Congress after and viewed the state capitol building all lit up. It was very impressive.
It took about 3 hours to drive to Dallas the next day. We headed to Dealey Plaza and the museum dedicated to the assassination of JFK. What an experience. It is a haunting experience to be in the place where it happened so many years ago. The grassy knoll, an x on the road where JFK was shot, the book depository 6th floor window.
The Sixth Floor Museum is so well done. Certainly worth a visit. The memorial to JFk is a few blocks away and was completed in the early 70's by Philip Johnson. Unfortunately to me it seems very dated. I expected more.
All in all it was a very moving experience to be here in Dallas.

Drive to Monterrey

We are in Monterrey now. This will be our last evening in Mexico for this year. Tomorrow we will cross into Texas. We are hoping the recent storms will have passed. We have not seen bad weather since January 1! Our drive from San Luis Potosi went very well. We left after having our car serviced at the Hyundai Dealer. The service was excellent but they couldn't download the Mexican map onto our navigation system without perhaps wiping out our US and Canada maps. I was disappointed but I managed with Google Maps. We missed one turn near the end of our journey but we still arrived at about 4:30.
We Had dinner at Chili's and we were both happy with our meals-chicken wings and fajitas. Then we settled in to our hotel for the night so we willget an early start tomorrow.
